Bike buddies has lift off

I've decided that Bike Buddies will be one of my next projects, I don't think it will be a massive hit but one which will let me try out some new tech and give me the app I have always wanted for my bike.

There are plenty of bike apps out there, Strava et all. They do however require a subscription for some basic features and I am by no means a pro-biker and I do not have a full-out skintight outfit (yikes).

I would like to track my routes, to build up some statistics so I can keep progressing and perhaps see if the social aspect could work. My biggest issue is marketing or bringing the app to people and that is the deal breaker for many projects. How can we get people to see it, even before trying to get them to download it and try it?

Initial features I'm thinking of:

  • Location and speed tracking - this will require background GPS tracking which I have done before.

  • Live map showing the current travelled route

  • Statistics such as top/average speed, distance covered, etc

  • I wonder if I can integrate with my eBike too

So at the same time as the development is going on, I really need to learn more about the marketing side of things.

The next step will be to build a colour theme and logo, then some mockups before I start pulling it all together.
